Educational Services
Our facility is a campus of the Sherman Independent School District. The campus is staffed by 7 certified teachers and 1 teacher aid. Residents attend school 8:00am to 2:30pm five days a week, eleven months of the year and have the opportunity to participate in credit recovery. Class sizes are 1:12 and special education services are available.
Visitation
The facility maintains a six day a week visitation schedule. Visitation hours are 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday and 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday. Residents are immediately eligible for one visitation per week, which can range from thirty minutes to one hour depending on their status in the program. The distance traveled and frequency of visits are taken into consideration to provide additional time as needed. Residents are allowed three approved visitors at a time, who must be immediate family members. All visitors must be approved by the facility and submit to a criminal history check. In addition, video conferencing visits through the use of Skype is available, as well as travel scholarships.
Housing
The post adjudication program has two housing options, the Boot Camp and the Victor Unit. Residents enter the program in Boot Camp, sleeping in open squad bays. Sex Offenders sleep in individual rooms until the recommendation is made by the therapist to move to an squad bay. Residents may petition to move to the Victor Unit, which allows for a less restrictive environment and a focus on independent living.
Case Management
Each resident is assigned a Case Manager upon intake who will be the point of contact for the Juvenile Probation Officer as well as the parent. The Case Manager will work with the Juvenile Probation Officer and parent to develop the goals and/or needs to be addressed in the case plan. The Case Manager also conducts monthly meetings to facilitate case plan reviews and treatment team meetings. In addition, video conferencing is available for monthly meetings and visitation as needed. The facility maintains a 1:15 Case Manager ratio to ensure they have ample time to devote to each resident’s needs.
Medical
The program currently has one LVN on staff as well as contracts with a medical clinic that provides the services of a physician, physician assistant and nurse practitioners. In addition, we have access to a network for other medical professionals to deal with a wide variety of medical needs, including psychiatrists and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner for medication management as well as dentists.
