The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Records Division serves as a vital link between the public and law enforcement, ensuring the accurate and secure maintenance of essential information. The primary function of the Records Division is document retention, storage, and retrieval of electronic and manual records. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office follows the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code.
Public Information Requests
All requests for public records must be made in writing. Your requests can be submitted in the following ways:
*Please note: The department has 10 business days to review and respond to a request.
TPIA does not require the agency to generate information in a format other than in the format in which the document is originally generated.
TPIA allows the agency to charge a fee for time and copying expense for voluminous production of public records. The agency has the obligation to disclose the expense in such instances prior to your incurring the obligation to pay the expense.
If the agency believes the documents requested are exempted by law from disclosure, it is the agency’s obligation to seek a ruling of the exemption from the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. You will be notified if the agency has requested a ruling. The Attorney General’s Office makes the ruling, which is final.
Any information to be withheld will be forwarded to the Texas Office of the Attorney General for a ruling. The Attorney General’s Office has up to a 90-day response time, which can be extended for larger or voluminous requests. When a final ruling notice has been received by the Sheriff’s Office, we have 15 days to release the information ordered by the Attorney General. When a final ruling is made, you will be contacted and provided with a ruling letter.
