The County Judge is elected by the voters for a term of four years and the Duties of the County Judge include:
- Conservator of the peace;
- Probate Judge;
- Juvenile Judge;
- Chairman of Commissioners Court;
- Appoints Commissioner in event of death;
- Chairman of Grievance Committee;
- Budget Officer for County;
- Signs Orders for Highway Acquisition;
- Conducts mental hearings;
- Conducts guardianship and removal of disabilities hearings;
- Director of Civil Defense and Emergency Preparedness;
- Advisory Member of Child Welfare;
- Member of Grayson County Election Board;
- Member of Grayson County Juvenile Board;
- Member of Grayson County Bail Bond Board;
- Orders all general and special elections;
- Makes application and signs for Federal Grants;
- Issues pauper cremations permits;
- Engages in all manner of counseling;
- Sits in for County Courts at Law Judges when they are away;
- Performs marriage ceremonies;
- And other duties as prescribed by law.
