Terms & General Duties

The County Judge is elected by the voters for a term of four years and the Duties of the County Judge include:   

  • Conservator of the peace; 
  • Probate Judge; 
  • Juvenile Judge; 
  • Chairman of Commissioners Court;
  • Appoints Commissioner in event of death; 
  • Chairman of Grievance Committee; 
  • Budget Officer for County; 
  • Signs Orders for Highway Acquisition; 
  • Conducts mental hearings; 
  • Conducts guardianship and removal of disabilities hearings; 
  • Director of Civil Defense and Emergency Preparedness; 
  • Advisory Member of Child Welfare; 
  • Member of Grayson County Election Board; 
  • Member of Grayson County Juvenile Board; 
  • Member of Grayson County Bail Bond Board; 
  • Orders all general and special elections; 
  • Makes application and signs for Federal Grants; 
  • Issues pauper cremations permits; 
  • Engages in all manner of counseling; 
  • Sits in for County Courts at Law Judges when they are away; 
  • Performs marriage ceremonies; 
  • And other duties as prescribed by law.
