2014 Wellness Initiatives Implemented
In May of 2014, Grayson County implemented the Wellness Screening Program and the Tobacco User Certification Program.
These Wellness Initiatives are specifically aimed at keeping the cost employee/family health care insurance at a sustainable level. So far, the Commissioners Court has managed to avoid passing on health insurance increases to employees. The County has learned that the higher our overall claims are, the higher the cost of providing insurance. These type of wellness efforts have been proven to reduce claims and reduce the cost of insurance in the long run. These programs are directly fashioned after many that are already being implemented across the State of Texas and across the nation.
In recent years, many employers, including Texas counties, are finding they either cannot afford to provide health insurance any longer or they must ask employees to pay (or pay more) for insurance. Grayson County is fortunate in that the Commissioners Court found a way to avoid both of these. Grayson County employees who choose to participate in these initiatives will avoid any added cost of health insurance for themselves and their families.
