The Grayson County Department of Juvenile Services is governed by the District Judges and County Judge of Grayson County, Texas as authorized by Texas Human Resources Code § 152.0971. The Department provides intake, juvenile court and community supervision to the citizens of Grayson County. The Department serves Cooke County and Fannin County through interlocal agreement for pre- and post-adjudication residential services that include: juvenile detention and juvenile boot camp facilities. The Cooke, Fannin and Grayson County Administrative Advisory Board assist the juvenile board of Grayson County with oversight and review of the pre- and post-adjudication facilities.
The Department has the
responsibility to provide services to youth ages 10 through 16 years
of age who are alleged or found to have committed criminal acts from
Class B misdemeanors to capital felonies. Referrals are received
from law enforcement officers, schools, justice courts, parents as
well as others. Dispositions of juveniles cases are governed by a
series of progressive sanctions adopted by the juvenile board which
include services such as: deferred prosecution, probation,
intensive supervision probation, drug and alcohol education or
treatment, community service restitution, individual, group and
family counseling, sex offender counseling, anger management, MRT®,
case management, non-secure and secure out-of-home placement as well
as other rehabilitative efforts. |

The operational cost of the Department for FY 2010 is $5,113,000.00. Funding sources include: Grayson County General Operating, Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, sale of pre- and post-adjudication beds to contract counties and collection of fees for services from probationers and their parents.
