| .......NOW COMES The Grayson County Sesquicentennial Commission and unanimously requests that The
Honorable Commissioners Court of Grayson County, at the commencement of the celebration of our County's
Sesquicentennial, officially adopt an item that uniquely represents Grayson County, for the following reasons: |
|
| I. |
| .......It is well known that Grayson County has one of the largest percentages of elderly citizens per capita of any
County in the United States. |
|
| II. |
| .......Such citizens are often referred to in a defamatory manner by the youth of the county, hence desire an official
item which is older than the memory of any man or women living in the County. |
|
| III. |
| .......Such an item has been found and geologically identified by scientists who have studied Grayson County. |
|
| IV. |
.......This item, a CRETACEOUS PELECYPOD, known as GRYPHAEA GRAYSONANA, was firmly
established in the area between one hundred forty-four million to one hundred million years ago.
|
.......Two of these Gryphaea Graysonana Pelecypods have been gathered from the Grayson County banks of Lake
Texoma, and have been suitably mounted for permanent display in the Grayson County Commissioners Court
Room.
.......WHEREFORE, the recently created Grayson County Sesquicentennial Commission respectfully requests that
this Honorable Court, as one of its first acts in the celebration of our County's Sesquicentennial, forthwith adopt
the GRYPHAEA GRAYSONANA sad the Official Ancient Fossil of Grayson County. |
|
| .......Presented this the 10th Day of March, 1995. |
