PROCLAMATION
|
ADOPTING A CRETACEOUS PELECYPOD, KNOWN AS GRYPHAEA GRAYSONANA
AS THE OFFICIAL ANCIENT FOSSIL OF GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS. |
|
WHEREAS,
|
| GRAYSON COUNTY was created by Act of the First Legislature approved March 17, 1846, and the one hundred
fiftieth anniversary of that Act will occur March 17, 1996; and |
|
WHEREAS,
|
| THE GRAYSON COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION has today been created and established by
the Commissioners Court of Grayson County as the official county organization for the celebration of our
County's Sesquicentennial; and |
|
WHEREAS,
|
| THE GRAYSON COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION has indicated a desire to begin such
celebration immediately and to that end has requested that the Commissioners Court, by official proclamation,
adopt a cretaceous pelevypod known as GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA as the OFFICIAL ANCIENT FOSSIL
of Grayson County; |

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:
|
| THAT THE REQUEST presented by THE GRAYSON COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION be
granted; that the cretaceous pelcypod known as GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA be and it is hereby adopted as the
Official Ancient Fossil of Grayson County; and the said Commission having presented to the Court two suitably
mounted specimens of GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA gathered from the Grayson County banks of Lake Texoma; |

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED:

| THAT the mounted specimens of GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA be permanently displayed in the Grayson County
Commissioners Courtroom for the edification and enjoyment of the citizens and friends of Grayson County. ................Caveat: In entering this Proclamation the Court does not necessarily endorse the statement in the
Commission's Request that the elderly citizens of Grayson County "are often referred to in a defamatory manner
by the youth of the county."
