PROCLAMATION
ADOPTING A CRETACEOUS PELECYPOD, KNOWN AS GRYPHAEA GRAYSONANA
AS THE OFFICIAL ANCIENT FOSSIL OF GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS.
WHEREAS,
GRAYSON COUNTY was created by Act of the First Legislature approved March 17, 1846, and the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of that Act will occur March 17, 1996; and
WHEREAS,
THE GRAYSON COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION has today been created and established by the Commissioners Court of Grayson County as the official county organization for the celebration of our County's Sesquicentennial; and
WHEREAS,
THE GRAYSON COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION has indicated a desire to begin such celebration immediately and to that end has requested that the Commissioners Court, by official proclamation, adopt a cretaceous pelevypod known as GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA as the OFFICIAL ANCIENT FOSSIL of Grayson County;
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:
THAT THE REQUEST presented by THE GRAYSON COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION be granted; that the cretaceous pelcypod known as GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA be and it is hereby adopted as the Official Ancient Fossil of Grayson County; and the said Commission having presented to the Court two suitably mounted specimens of GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA gathered from the Grayson County banks of Lake Texoma;
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED:
THAT the mounted specimens of GRAPHAEA GRAYSONANA be permanently displayed in the Grayson County Commissioners Courtroom for the edification and enjoyment of the citizens and friends of Grayson County.

................Caveat: In entering this Proclamation the Court does not necessarily endorse the statement in the Commission's Request that the elderly citizens of Grayson County "are often referred to in a defamatory manner by the youth of the county."
