 This picture shows Grayson County's first Courthouse.
The log Courthouse was built in 1847 at a cost of
$273.00 per Democrat files. Specifications ordered for
this Courthouse described a frame 24 feet square, nine
feet high with two doors, two windows, 12 lights each.
It fell victim to fire by a group of drunk men who
wanted to settle a bet of whether a Gray Goose nested
beneath it.

This picture reflects the pride of the county, a majestic
Grayson County Courthouse completed in 1876. It was
later remodeled in 1916 which included the removal of
the cupola with the clock and bell. A bell which had
called many of people to many of meetings. This
beautiful structure fell victim to an angry mob who,
with a blow torch and dynamite burnt it to the ground in
1930. |

Courthouse completed in 1936 after the 1876
Courthouse was burned down by an angry mob in 1930.
This Courthouse was of English design, built of native
Texas limestone quarried near Austin, Texas.

appears today. The Courthouse was modified by
adding the south wing, completed in 1964.
