| SUBJECT: Proposal for Establishment of an Official Flag for Grayson County To Said Honorable Court:
.........Whereas, Grayson County was created by Act of the First Legislature of the State of Texas approved
March 17, 1846, and March 17, 1996, will be the 150th birthday of our County; and we believe the Court, the
cities, towns and other communities of the County, as well as Grayson County citizens in general, should and
will desire to celebrate this Sesquicentennial of our County and its historic past in all appropriate ways; and
.........Whereas, it is our belief that Grayson County has never had a permanent, official County Flag not limited
to the celebration of specific events, and we believe the approaching Sesquicentennial of Grayson County is an
appropriate time for the establishment of an official flag for the County to be displayed during official
ceremonies and at other times while observing proper flag etiquette, not only during such Sesquicentennial, but
in future ceremonies, events and times unrelated to said Sesquicentennial; and
.........Whereas, in 1984 a committee was created and approved by the Commissioners Court of Grayson County
for the purpose of celebrating and lending assistance to communities and other organizations of the county in
celebrating the Sesquicentennial of the The State of Texas; which committee was organized and functioned
under the name of the Grayson County Sesquicentennial Committee, and such Committee is still functioning
and meeting regularly;
.........Therefore, We the members of the Grayson County Sesquicentennial Committee and its steering
committee referred to as T.H.E. Committee, having considered a number of different designs of flags and
having selected the design described and shown in the accompanying exhibits as being a dignified and
appropriate emblem to represent Grayson County, do hereby propose as follows:
.........That the design of flag described and shown in the accompanying exhibits, after an appropriate time for
consideration and comments as well as any changes which the Court may deem desirable, be adopted and
established as the permanent official flag of Grayson County, Texas.
