Mission
Statement:
To assist and
encourage participants in their substance abuse rehabilitation process through
constructive and innovative court supervision.
To enhance the participants lives
through sobriety support programs, educational incentives, employment and family
reunification.
To more effectively use public funds
and resources in dealing with offenders.
The Program:
WHAT IS STAR?
SUBSTANCE
ABUSE
TREATMENT
AND
RECOVERY
STAR is a
special program within the Grayson County Criminal Justice System. It is a
court-supervised program for those arrested in Grayson County who face drug
charges or drug related charges and who have a drug addiction.
STAR
involves frequent court appearances, random drug testing as well as group and
individual counseling.
STAR awards
incentives for compliant behavior and imposes sanctions for negative behavior.
STAR has
been developed to help participants achieve total abstinence from illegal and
other drugs of abuse including alcohol. The program is designed to promote
self-sufficiency and return participants to the community as a productive and
responsible member.
STAR is a
voluntary program.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for
consideration for participating in drug court the defendant must meet the
following requirements:

Must have felony filed and
disposed of in Grayson County.

Judicial transfer will be
considered on a case by case basis.

Must be a resident or work
in Grayson County or an adjoining county.

Assessment shows a probability of
substance dependence disorder with a history of substance misuse or abuse.

Motivated for treatment and has
been approved by the treatment team.

Must be a U.S. citizen.
Disqualification Criteria:
-
Must not be parolees who are
currently on parole status.

Those with a history of
manufacturing/possession with intent to deliver.
-
Those with a history of violent
offenses.

Those with a history of sex
related offenses.

Those having undisposed of
criminal charges.
-
Those who do not have the
capacity to manage the structure of Recovery Court.

Those who have a low probability
of having a substance dependence disorder and not in need of drug treatment.
Incentives:
Incentives -
positive consequence that is the direct result of and is a reward for the
offender’s positive behavior. Possible incentives are gift certificates to local
stores for hair cuts, groceries, gas, etc. Incentives are solicited and may be
donated to the:
